Financial Aid

StudentAid BC helps eligible students with the cost of their post-secondary education through loans, grants, scholarships, and other programs. We also offer programs for borrowers who need help repaying their loans.

If you are a B.C. resident planning to attend a college, university, public institute or private training school, you have the primary responsibility of paying for your education. Some ways to meet your costs are through: employment income, savings, assets, and support from family. However, if this isn't enough, StudentAid BC may be able to supplement (not replace) your own financial resources.

B.C. student loans are provided by the provincial government and Canada student loans are provided by the federal government. These loans are managed as a single Canada-B.C. integrated loan at the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC).

We offer a single application process for loans and grants, and one place to address repayment issues and inquiries.

This site will help guide you through:

Repayment Assistance Plan

The Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) helps you manage your Canada-B.C. integrated student loan debt by letting you pay back what you can afford.

If you are having trouble making your monthly student loan payments, RAP can help. When you apply for RAP, we calculate an affordable monthly payment based on how much money you make and the size of your family. While on RAP you may qualify for reduced payments of no more than 10% of your income, or no payments at all.

Check the income thresholds to see if you are eligible for $0 payments.

If you are on RAP for a total of 60 months (cumulative) or you are approved for RAP 10 years after you finished school, the governments of B.C. and Canada will start to pay down the loan amounts that your affordable payment doesn’t cover.

Once the government has started to pay down your loan you cannot get any more student aid. You will need to pay your unpaid loans back before you can apply for more student aid.
