Language Proficiency Requirements Policies
English is the language of instruction at UPC. English proficiency is required for all students entering UPC General Studies Diploma and Business Administration & Management Diploma programs. Students who have been awarded a diploma/degree from an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution where English is the medium of instruction will meet the language requirements for all UPC programs.
It is recommended that potential students meet with an advisor to determine the best English language requirement pathway.
- · Speaking and listening requirements can be satisfied through three years of full-time, face-to-face secondary or post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the medium of instruction and is also one of the country’s official languages. ESL courses are not included in the three-year calculation.
- · UPC offers an English as a Second Language (ESL) assessment to help place students in our programs and courses.
- · Students who do not meet the minimum level of language proficiency for admission to General Studies Diploma and Business Administration & Management Diploma programs will be given the opportunity to improve their English language proficiency through the ESL Diploma program of UPC. As students in the ESL Diploma program demonstrate increased English language proficiency, they will have the opportunity to register for selected courses numbered 100 or higher, subject to meeting specific course prerequisites.
